Periodontics

Gum disease is a widespread dental issue that affects millions of people, many of whom are unaware of it. Periodontal disease, commonly known as Gum disease, is thought to affect more than half of all people. When bacteria is trapped above or below the gumline and not wiped away, gum disease develops. The gums recede and become inflamed as germs and tartar build up. This can create a variety of other issues, including foul breath, exposed tooth roots, and sensitive teeth, as well as extensive damage to your smile. Gum disease manifests itself in a variety of stages, ranging from moderate to severe. Gum disease is easier to treat the sooner it is found. The most prevalent symptom of gum disease is bleeding gums.

Gum disease can be reversed if identified early, but later stages can only be managed, not treated. When gum disease is detected, your dentist will be able to advise you on the best treatment options. Depending on the severity of the disease, there are a variety of treatment options for gum disease. In early stages of gum disease, a deep and thorough cleaning (scaling and root planing) of the periodontal pockets is needed to remove bacteria and tartar accumulation and allow the gums to heal. In advanced cases of Gum disease, surgery is needed to remove infected gum tissue and realign the jaw bone for advanced periodontitis cases.

Regular dental examinations can benefit in the maintenance of a healthy smile and the detection of early signs of dental problems.
